Words I Love


This is pretty self-explanatory. I am a lover-of-words.

  • Denizen: an inhabitant; resident.
  • Catawampus: awry; off-center
  • Cacophony: jarring sound or dissonance.
  • Exacerbate:
    1. to increase the severity, bitterness, or violence of (disease, ill feeling, etc.); aggravate.
    2. to embitter the feelings of (a person); irritate; exasperate.
  • Effusive: 1.unduly demonstrative; lacking reserve:
  • Effervescent : bubbling; vivacious
  • Rapscallion: a rascal; idle or worthless person
  • Reprobate: a morally corrupt or depraved person
  • Persnickety: requiring painstaking care.
  • Aegis: 1.Classical Mythology. the shield or breastplate of Zeus or Athena, bearing at its center the head of the Gorgon. 2.protection; support: 3.sponsorship; auspices:
  • Agroof: to fall flat on your face
  • Diletante: A person who claims an area of interest, such as the arts, without real commitment or knowledge.
  • Gumption: the courage to do something
  • Sardonic: grimly mocking or cynical
  • Lambent:  lightly brilliant; wit; flickering with soft radiance.
  • Sartorial: relating to clothing or tailoring
  • Acquiesce: to consent without protest.
  • Alexithymia: an inability to express emotions verbally
  • Nihilistic: 1. believing all values are baseless and that nothing can be known or communicated. 2. rejecting all distinctions in moral or religious value and repudiating all previous theories of morality or religious belief. 3. believing that destruction of existing political or social institutions is necessary for future improvement. 4. having the delusion that the world or one’s mind, body, or self does not exist.
  • Paramour: the classy way of saying “illicit lover”/mistress/booty call.
  • Termagant: a shrew
  • Penchant: (one of my favorites!) “a definitive liking or strong inclination”
  • Skulk: to lurk or move about stealthily.
  • Unctuous: insincere; slippery; oily
  • Wanderlust: the strong and irrepressible urge to travel. My life can be described by “wanderlust!”
